Before Your First Visit to Branchville: The Complete Checklist

Before booking anything, register for a ViaPath account and get approved. Approval is required for both in-person and online visits - so start this process well before the day you want to see your loved one.

Pay close attention to any required supplemental documentation during the application. Missing or incomplete documents can delay your approval - or get your application rejected entirely.

IDs Required

  • Valid state driver’s license (state of residence)
  • Valid state photo ID card (state of residence)
  • Valid active-duty military photo ID
  • Valid passport
  • Bring your photo ID every time you visit if you’re age 16 or older

Dress is one of the most common reasons people get turned away. At Branchville, dresses, skirts, and shorts must be no shorter than two inches above the knee. Halter tops, tank tops, tube tops, and anything sheer, see-through, or low-cut are off-limits. Wear a shirt or blouse with sleeves - don't get stuck improvising at the entrance.

Prohibited Items

  • Firearms, weapons, knives, or ammunition
  • Narcotics or other controlled substances
  • Alcoholic beverages or marijuana
  • Tobacco and tobacco-related items
  • Cameras and video/audio recording equipment
  • Electronic devices (including items like cell phones)
  • Medication, unless it is life-saving or life-sustaining
  • Anything that could be considered trafficking; trafficking can be referred to Indiana State Police and can lead to a permanent ban from visiting at any Department facility
  • Baby items allowed: one clear plastic baby bottle and/or one pacifier, and one diaper
  • Money allowed: up to $20.00 in coins only per adult visitor (for vending machines)
  • Do not give money to an offender - this is considered trafficking, can stop your visit on the spot, and can lead to restrictions on future visits

Bringing a minor? Plan for hands-on supervision the entire time. Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and children cannot be left alone anywhere on facility grounds.

Expect a search: Visitors are subject to search when entering, including a frisk search that includes the breast and groin area. If you refuse to be searched, the visit will be denied.

ViaPath uses Eastern Time for scheduling. Double-check the time zone before confirming so you don't accidentally miss your visit.
