How to Get an Inmate’s Property Released from Brazos County Jail: Booking, Scheduled, and TDCJ Releases

During booking, the inmate can ask the booking officer to release their property to someone. Here's the catch: you need to be physically present in the release lobby while the inmate is still being processed. Show up after booking wraps up, and the release can't happen.

Bring your ID: Booking-time property releases are only processed if you’re in the release lobby during booking and you can present a valid state-issued ID.

How to Get an Inmate’s Property Released from Brazos County Jail: Booking, Scheduled, and TDCJ Releases

For inmates already housed at Brazos County Detention Center, property pickups happen through a scheduled window. These releases are processed Monday through Friday, 1:00pm to 7:00pm.

Scheduled releases don't happen automatically. The inmate needs to request the property release at least 24 hours in advance. Don't wait until the day you want to pick things up - plan ahead.

  1. Let the inmate know you missed the pickup - if you don’t show up at the scheduled date and time, the release won’t be completed.
  2. Have the inmate schedule a new property release - the inmate will need to set up another release and indicate a new date and time for you to pick the property up.

ID required at pickup: Even during the Monday–Friday 1:00–7:00pm window, property won’t be released unless you present a valid state-issued ID.

TDCJ property releases follow different rules. At Brazos County Detention Center, you can pick up TDCJ-related property any day, any time. Just bring the signed TDCJ property release letter - the jail mails this to you - to the release lobby.

Bring the letter and your ID: To complete a TDCJ property release, you’ll need the signed TDCJ property release letter and a valid state-issued ID.

Regardless of which type of release you're handling, you'll need a valid state-issued ID. No exceptions.

Miss your scheduled pickup? The inmate will need to schedule a new release with a new date and time. You can't just show up later that same day - a fresh release request is required.
