Before Your First On‑Site Video Visit: What to Leave in Your Car

Leave your personal belongings in your vehicle before your scheduled video visit. The only exception? Your government-issued photo ID - keep that with you. Staff take the posted rules seriously. Breaking them can cost you the visit or your visiting privileges entirely.

  • Cell phone
  • Purse, backpack, or other bag
  • Wallet (after you’ve pulled out your ID)
  • Smartwatch/fitness watch and other wearables
  • Headphones/earbuds
  • Tablets, laptops, e-readers, and other electronics
  • Cameras or any recording devices
  • Paperwork, notebooks, or loose items you don’t truly need for check-in

Warning: Visitors are expected to follow the posted rules. Violations can lead to your visit being ended and your visitation privileges being suspended or terminated.

No electronic devices during visitation - that means no viewing images, recording, or taking photos. Anything that could work as a camera or recorder isn't allowed. If you're not sure whether something counts, leave it locked in your car and bring only your ID.

No photos/recording: Using electronics to view images, record, or photograph can end your visit immediately and may lead to a suspension of future visits for at least 30 days.

Smoking and eating aren't allowed during on-site visitation. Need a snack? Handle it before you arrive, or save it for after your visit.

Non-alcoholic drinks are allowed only in the waiting area. Once you move into the visitation area, drinks aren't permitted - finish yours beforehand.

Previsit Checklist

  • Bring a government-issued photo ID (the only personal item you should expect to keep with you)
  • Lock up all other personal property in your vehicle before your scheduled visit (including your cell phone)
  • Don’t arrive under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, or other drugs, and don’t attempt to visit if you’re not able to behave calmly
  • Skip smoking and eating during on-site visitation
  • If you have a non-alcoholic beverage, keep it in the designated waiting area only

These basics help you avoid a canceled visit. They also protect your ability to keep visiting - rule violations can lead to suspension or permanent loss of visitation privileges.

Unsure about a rule or need help with the video equipment? Ask the Visitation Clerk before you start. A quick question up front beats a mistake that ends your session early.
