Before you make the drive, confirm you’re on the incarcerated person’s approved visiting list. If you’re not on the list yet, you won’t be able to visit - even if you have your ID and you’re there during visiting hours.

Check the schedule before you leave. Visiting hours vary by facility, and visits aren't held on state-observed holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Note: If your loved one is on any quarantine status, they cannot have social visits until they’re cleared by the Health Services Unit.

Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID. Every visitor must show photo identification to enter, and you'll be checked in before you're allowed into the visiting area.

  1. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early - you’re required to be there at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit to check in.
  2. Treat the start time as a hard cutoff - if you’re late, the visit may be shortened or canceled due to scheduling restraints.

Keep your group small. No more than two visitors are allowed per visit - children count toward that limit - so plan accordingly.

Time limit: Visits are limited to 30 minutes (until further notice) to allow for disinfecting before and after visits.

Dress conservatively. Connecticut DOC visiting rules (Administrative Directive 10.6) require attire that's "reasonably modest." Staff can turn you away if your clothing is revealing, seductive, or offensive. Stick with simple, covered-up options - something you won't second-guess when you get to the door.

  • Leave your cell phone at home or locked in your car - cell phones and electronic devices are not permitted within correctional facilities.

For authorized contact visits, a brief embrace and kiss are allowed at the beginning and end. Non-contact visits offer less privacy - all non-contact visits are recorded.
