The county's visitation page says Brown County Jail visitation days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Easy enough - except that same page lists other day-and-time blocks that don't match. It's confusing if you're trying to nail down when to show up.

Here's what's actually happening: the schedule is split by housing group. Female visitation runs Monday, Tuesday, and Friday with separate afternoon and evening blocks. Protective custody has its own Thursday schedule with two time slots. If you're unsure which one applies, skip the general

Protective Custody Block visits happen on Thursday only. You get two options: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Since protective custody runs on its own schedule, use these Thursday hours when planning your visit.

Each inmate gets one visit per week. Coordinate with other family and friends beforehand - if someone else already visited, you'll need to wait until the following week.

Groups are capped at four visitors at a time. If more people want to come, plan for some to sit out or spread visits across different weeks. Nobody wants to make the drive just to get turned away at the door.

Don’t cut it close: You must be signed in and in the Brown County Sheriff’s Office lobby before visiting hours start. If you’re not, you’ll be turned away and the visit won’t happen.

Before you head out, double-check the jail's visitation schedule and confirm you're looking at the right housing group. Remember: the county page says visitation is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but female housing also includes Tuesday, and protective custody is Thursday only. Verify the exact day and time block you need, then arrive early enough to sign in. That one step prevents most "turned away" situations.
