How to Address Mail to an Inmate at Bryan County Jail — and What You Can't Send
Most mail gets rejected at Bryan County Jail for two reasons: the envelope isn't addressed correctly, or something inside violates the rules. Follow the format and guidelines below to give your letter the best chance of getting through.
Address the envelope exactly like this: Bryan County Jail "Inmate Name" 402 Evergreen Street Durant, OK 74701
Both the front and back of the envelope need complete information. Bryan County Jail requires full names (first and last) and accurate addresses for both you and the person you're writing to.
Envelope Requirements
- ✓ Write the inmate’s full name (first and last)
- ✓ Write your full name (first and last)
- ✓ Include the inmate’s full, correct mailing address exactly as required (facility name, street address, city, state, ZIP)
- ✓ Include your full, correct return address (street address, city, state, ZIP)
- ✓ Make sure everything is clearly written and easy to read
Mail that doesn't follow the jail's policy gets a rejection notice. That usually means it won't be delivered.
Racy or pornographic images aren't allowed. If you're including photos, drawings, or printed images, keep them clean and non-sexual - otherwise the mail won't make it through.
Anything depicting or describing illegal activity is off-limits. This includes images or written content that appears to promote, document, or explain criminal acts.
The jail also blocks mail containing instructions or material they consider hazardous. Specifically, Bryan County Jail won't allow pictures or descriptions of self-defense tactics, locksmith instructions, escape techniques, or similar content.
Note: If there’s any chance your letter, photos, or printed pages could be read as pornographic, tied to illegal activity, or instructional for self-defense/locksmithing/escape, leave it out - those categories can prevent delivery.
There's one specific restriction on who can write: if you were previously incarcerated at this detention center, you can't correspond with any current inmate for six months after your release - unless the Detention Center Administrator approves it.
Inmates can receive items sent from third parties. That said, normal mail rules still apply - content that violates the policy can still be rejected.
