ViaPath/Telmate's privacy policy governs what happens when you use their services to communicate with someone incarcerated. If you're placing calls, receiving calls, or using video features, the vendor says those communications fall under its policy - including recording and storage.

ViaPath/Telmate records and stores communications made through its services. That includes your image and voice data if you're using video visitation or leaving audio messages.

Beyond recording communications, ViaPath/Telmate collects your phone's location when you receive a call through the service. The vendor says this is used for accurate billing and for facility safety, security, and investigative purposes.

There's a specific window for that location tracking. By accepting a call from an incarcerated person, you agree to let ViaPath/Telmate obtain your phone location for 60 minutes after you accept.

2. Request the location opt-out after your call ends - ViaPath/Telmate says this opt-out is for having your phone location obtained during any time remaining in the 60-minute period after you terminate the call.
