What to Do When Your Plans Change: Adding or Canceling Visitors
Already scheduled a visit but something changed? You can usually update your plans online—add an approved visitor or cancel the visit altogether.
Plans change fast. Rides fall through, childcare shifts, or another family member suddenly becomes available. If you already have a visit scheduled, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) gives you online options to adjust: use "Add Visitor" to locate your scheduled visit and add someone, or "Cancel my visit" to find and cancel your appointment.
Gather your details before you start so you're not scrambling mid-form. You'll need the offender's GDC ID, plus your own information: name, relationship, date of birth, ID type, and a telephone number.
- Get your information together - Have the offender’s GDC ID ready, along with your requester details (name, relationship, date of birth, ID type, and telephone number).
- Use the “Add Visitor” tool - On the GDC visitation page, choose the “Add Visitor” link to locate your already-scheduled visit.
- Add the additional visitor(s) - Once you’ve found the correct scheduled visit, add visitors through the tool.
- Confirm the update - Double-check you selected the right visit and the right people, then confirm your changes.
Tip: You can only add people who are already approved visitors. Make sure the person has approval before you start.
- Pull together the required details - Have the offender’s GDC ID and your requester information ready (name, relationship, date of birth, ID type, and telephone number).
- Use the “Cancel my visit” tool - On the GDC visitation page, select “Cancel my visit” to find your scheduled appointment.
- Confirm the cancellation - Once you’ve located the correct visit, follow the prompts to cancel it.
Once you cancel, that appointment is gone. If you still want to visit, you'll need to schedule a new one for a different day or time.
Tips Avoid Problems
- ✓ Confirm the person you want to add is already an approved visitor before using the “Add Visitor” tool.
- ✓ For weekend visits, make changes and requests by the cutoff: 5:00 PM on Wednesday of the same week.
- ✓ For state holidays, make changes and requests by the cutoff: 5:00 PM three days before the holiday.
- ✓ Keep the offender’s GDC ID and your requester details handy (name, relationship, date of birth, ID type, and telephone number) so you can complete the form without delays.
- ✓ Don’t wait until the last minute - missing cutoff times can leave you stuck without the visit you were counting on.
Watch the deadlines: Miss the 5:00 PM Wednesday cutoff for weekends - or the 5:00 PM cutoff three days before a state holiday - and you may not be able to add visitors or reschedule in time.
