How attorneys can visit or call clients at Butler County Prison

In-person attorney visits are available any day of the week from 8:00am to 10:00pm. Plan your arrival so you're wrapped up by 10:00pm - visits must end by then.

• ✓ Enter through the prison’s mail lobby for attorney visits.
• ✓ Present a valid bar card along with a valid photo ID.
• ✓ Check in with the lobby officer, verify your identity with photo identification, and tell the officer which inmate you are there to see.

Before making the trip, confirm you're on your client's visitation list. If your name isn't on it, you won't be allowed in.

The facility also offers scheduled video/Zoom visits for attorney-client consultations. Call ahead so staff can reserve a room and avoid delays.

Your client can call you directly from the facility. Right after commitment, inmates get three collect calls billed to the number they dial - useful for urgent first contact. After those initial calls, an account with the phone system provider is required.

3. Set up what’s required for your number - Complete any account setup or authorization Smart Communications requires so your client can reach you under the approved legal-call process.

• ✓ Your client’s name (be ready to tell the lobby officer which inmate you’re there to see)

Coordinate timing directly with your client. At Butler County Prison, the inmate contacts the visitor to schedule, then notifies the Pod Correction Officer to confirm availability. Make sure your client has added you to their visitation list beforehand - no listing means no visit.
