How to Send Money to an Inmate at Butler County Prison (mail, kiosk, online)

Butler County Prison accepts deposits three ways: by mail (money order only), at the lobby kiosk, or online through Jail ATM. Need funds posted quickly? The kiosk and online options are your best bet. Prefer to skip online fees? Mailing a money order works fine - it just takes a few extra days.

Sending a money order by mail? Address the envelope exactly like this: Butler County Prison C/O Inmate's Full Name 202 S. Washington Street Butler, PA 16001

Note: When you mail a deposit, send only the money order - do not include letters in the envelope.

  • Use the inmate’s full name when you address the envelope.
  • Mail a money order (this is an approved way for friends and family to deposit funds).
  • Put only the money order in the envelope - no letters.
  • Keep your receipt or a copy of the money order for your records.
  • Expect some processing time after it arrives before the funds show up on the account.

The lobby kiosk is another option. Take your time with the on-screen prompts and double-check that you've selected the right inmate before submitting - mistakes are hard to fix after the fact.

For online deposits, Butler County Prison uses Jail ATM. After you complete the transaction, save your confirmation or receipt until the funds show up on the inmate's account.

Only money orders and cashier's checks are accepted for inmate accounts. Stick to those - anything else gets rejected.

Personal checks, business checks, and cash won't be deposited. If you send any of those, they'll be returned to you.

Quick rule: Accepted for inmate accounts: money orders and cashier’s checks. Not accepted (will be returned): personal checks, business checks, and cash.

Tips

  • Confirm the inmate’s full name and use the exact spelling when you mail a money order.
  • When mailing funds, send only the money order - don’t include a letter in the same envelope.
  • Keep receipts/confirmations for mail, kiosk deposits, and Jail ATM deposits until the money posts.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts carefully if you use the lobby kiosk or the Jail ATM website.
  • Build in a little processing time - especially if you’re mailing a money order.

The most common mistakes? Sending the wrong payment type or mixing items together. Personal checks, business checks, and cash will be returned - they won't go on the account. And if you're mailing a money order, don't include a letter in the envelope. Money order only.
