For regular letters, use the prison's PO Box. Include the person's full name and their Butler County Prison number on the envelope. Format it like this: Butler County Prison, c/o Inmate's Full Name and Butler County Prison Number, PO Box 9156, Seminole, FL 33775-9156.

  • Put a return name and return address on the envelope.

Legal correspondence uses a different address. Send legal mail to: Butler County Prison, c/o Inmate’s Full Name, 202 S Washington St., Butler, PA 16001.

Books and periodicals follow a stricter rule. Paperback books (new only - no used books), magazines, and newspapers must ship directly from the publisher or distributor. They go to the street address: Butler County Prison, c/o Inmate's Full Name, 202 S Washington St., Butler, PA 16001. If you try mailing a book yourself or send a used paperback, expect it to be rejected.

Note: Prison management can deny magazines and newspapers they consider objectionable. Outside publications may also be refused if they’re clearly inflammatory, include instructions for making weapons/explosives/poisons, or are judicially defined as obscene.

Expect everything you send to be screened. The prison scans and inspects all correspondence for contraband, so keep letters simple and skip any extras that might cause problems.
