Getting Property Back from Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement: Step-by-Step

Evidence and property releases happen Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Show up outside those hours and you'll have to come back. Plan accordingly.

Before Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement can release anything, you need a signed release form from the Butte-Silver Bow County Attorney's Office. This form must list the specific property being released and name who's authorized to pick it up. Bring it to the evidence technician at the Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department when you arrive. Firearms require the same signed release - no form, no pickup.

Documents to Bring

  • A signed release form from the Butte-Silver Bow County Attorney’s Office (listing the property and the name of the person receiving it) to present to the evidence technician at the Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department
  • The notification letter (if you received one by mail saying your property is authorized for release)
  • A picture ID (required when you come in to retrieve property)

Firearms: To retrieve firearms, the owner must first obtain a signed release form from the Butte-Silver Bow County Attorney’s Office and present it to the evidence technician.

Once your property is authorized for release, you'll get a letter in the mail. Hang onto it. When you come in for pickup, bring that letter along with a picture ID.

Deadline: Don't wait too long. If you don't pick up your property within 10 working days of receiving the notification letter, it will be disposed of.

  1. Fill out an authorization-to-pick-up form - If you can’t pick up your property yourself, you’ll need to designate another individual using an authorization to pick up property form that’s signed and notarized.
  2. Send your designee with the right documents - The person picking up your property must present the signed/notarized authorization form.
  3. Bring picture ID to the pickup - Your designated pickup person must also present a picture ID when retrieving the property.
