Evidence and property are released Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Before property can be released, you need a signed release form from the Butte-Silver Bow County Attorney's Office. The release must list the property being released and the name of the person receiving it.

Bring a photo ID when you pick up your property. Staff will ask to see it before releasing anything.

Having someone else pick up your property? You'll need to provide a signed and notarized authorization form. The person picking up must also bring a photo ID.

Deadline: Pick up your property within 10 working days of receiving the notification letter. After that, it's considered abandoned and will be disposed of.

  1. Get a signed release from the County Attorney: The owner must first obtain a signed release form from the Butte-Silver Bow County Attorney's Office.
  2. Make sure the release clearly identifies the firearm and recipient: The release form must list the property to be released and the name of the individual receiving it.
  3. Bring the release and your photo ID to the evidence technician: Present the signed release form to the evidence technician at the Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department, along with a picture (photo) ID.

Picking up a firearm? A background check is run on the spot to verify you're eligible to own one. Plan for about a half hour wait while it processes.

Ammunition: Ammo isn't released with the firearm. You'll need to come back separately to retrieve it.
