What to Expect During Intake and Booking at Butte Detention Center
When someone you care about is taken to Butte Detention Center, the intake and booking process can feel like a mystery. Here's what typically happens, when they can make phone calls, and what fees to expect.
Intake begins in the booking area at Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center. A booking officer asks a series of questions, and then the person is formally processed into the facility.
During booking, staff take a photograph and fingerprints. These standard identification steps confirm identity and complete the booking record.
Phone access typically comes after booking wraps up. Once processed, arrestees can call a bondsman, family member, or friends.
The facility charges a $25 booking fee to all arrestees. This fee is separate from bond and is part of the standard intake costs.
When you add money to someone's account, the facility applies those funds in a specific order. The booking fee and any medical copay fees come out first. Whatever remains goes toward commissary purchases.
- ✓ If you mail money for commissary, it must be cash or a cashier’s check.
- ✓ Do not include letters with commissary funds. Letters sent with funds are not accepted and will be destroyed.
If the offense isn't bondable, or the person can't post bond, they'll remain at the facility after intake. Once classification is complete, they're moved to a housing unit.
