Setting Up Your Phone to Receive Calls from Byrd Unit
To receive phone calls from someone at Byrd Unit (TDCJ), you need to enroll your phone number first. The detail that trips most people up: you must have the inmate's 8-digit TDCJ ID (also called a SID number) to complete registration.
Your phone number has to be registered through the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family Enrollment system before you can receive calls from anyone in TDCJ, including Byrd Unit. Have the inmate's 8-digit TDCJ ID (also called a SID number) ready. You'll need it to link your phone number to the person calling you.
Register through the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family Enrollment (internet enrollment). Once your number is enrolled, it can be approved to receive calls from the inmate.

- ✓ The telephone number you want to register to receive calls
Note: Registration will not go through without the inmate’s 8-digit TDCJ ID (SID). Get that number first, then come back and enroll your phone.
If you do not know the inmate’s TDCJ ID, start with the TDCJ Offender Search online. Once you locate the person, you can use the TDCJ ID shown there for phone registration.
- Look up the TDCJ ID online: Use the TDCJ Offender Search to find the inmate and note the TDCJ ID.
- Call for help if you cannot find them: Contact (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283 to get assistance locating the 8-digit TDCJ ID.
Tip: If the Offender Search does not pull up the person you need, call (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283 and ask for the inmate’s 8-digit TDCJ ID.
