What to Know and Bring for Your First Visit to David Wade Correctional Center (DWCC)

Your first visit goes a lot smoother when you plan around DWCC's schedule and bring only what the visiting room allows. Use this checklist to avoid common turn-aways and delays.

Regular visiting days at David Wade Correctional Center (DWCC) are Thursday through Saturday.

Visiting hours run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Build in extra time for check-in so you're not rushing to get through the door.

Heads up: Incoming visitors are not admitted between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., so don't plan to arrive during that window.

Even though visiting hours extend to 4:00 p.m., no visits can start after 3:00 p.m. Show up too close to that cutoff and you'll likely be turned away because there isn't enough time to begin the visit.

Before you make the trip, confirm you're approved to visit. At DWCC, the incarcerated person must request that you be added to their approved visiting list. The Visitation Department then lets them know whether each visitor is approved or denied. Need something outside the regular process? Visitors must either be on the approved list or get advance approval for a special visit from the warden (or the warden's designee). Special visits have to be requested by the incarcerated person.

Heads up: Only six visitors can be in the visiting room to visit one incarcerated person at any given time.

Keep the monthly limit in mind when planning trips. An approved visitor may visit two times each month, so families often need to coordinate who goes on which day.

What to Bring ID Items Payment

  • Picture ID
  • One car key or keyless device
  • Change in a see-through bag or small plastic container

You can also bring one credit or debit card to purchase food in the Visiting Room. Stick to just one card and keep it with the small set of allowed items.

Bringing kids? Two rules to know. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and visitors 15 and older need picture identification to get in.

  • One diaper (enough for one diaper change)
  • One baby bottle or child’s cup
  • One pacifier
  • Baby wipes (in a see-through bag)

Need to add funds? DWCC has a JPAY kiosk in the Visitor Processing Area where you can deposit money into the incarcerated person's account.

  1. Plan for the right days and hours: visits are Thursday through Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  2. Avoid the admission blackout: do not arrive expecting to be admitted between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
  3. Get there before the last start time: no visits may start after 3:00 p.m., even though the visiting window continues until 4:00 p.m.

Reminder: DWCC only allows a short list of items into the Visiting Room: your ID, one car key or keyless device, and change in a see-through bag or small plastic container. Everything else needs to stay in your vehicle.
