How to Send Mail to Someone at Calhoun County Jail: Regular Mail vs. Legal Mail
Calhoun County handles mail on two separate tracks. Regular personal mail goes to an off-site processing address, while legal mail goes directly to the jail. Getting the right address — and labeling legal mail clearly — keeps your letter from getting delayed.
As of Sept. 1, 2023, Calhoun County routes all regular inmate mail through off-site processing. Once processed, mail shows up on inmate tablets. The key point: regular letters don't go to the Battle Creek jail address anymore. You need to use the correct mailing address.
Send regular (non-legal) mail to the facility's off-site P.O. Box in Phoenix, Maryland. Include the inmate's name and identifier, then use this address: Calhoun County Correctional Center Michigan, Inmate Name and Inmate Identifier, P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131.
Legal mail goes somewhere different - send it directly to the Calhoun County facility in Battle Creek. Address it to the "Inmate/Detainee Name" at 185 East Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek, MI 49014-4066.
Note: Mail clearly marked "Legal Mail" from a bona fide law firm stays on-site for processing. Staff will open it in front of the inmate/detainee and check for contraband.
