How to Schedule Your First Visit with a Georgia DOC Inmate (approval + request)
Visiting someone in a Georgia DOC facility happens in two steps: get approved first, then request a specific visit. Once you understand that split, everything else falls into place.
The order matters here. First, you become an approved visitor by filling out the Visitation Request Form and submitting it to the facility where your loved one is housed. Only after you're approved can you request an actual visit through the Georgia DOC visitation form.
Getting on the approved visitor list is step one. Complete the Visitation Request Form and send it to the facility where the inmate is currently housed. Take your time - small mistakes like a misspelled name can slow things down, and the form needs to reach the correct facility to be processed.
Note: Some ID options on the form are only available if you're 18 or older. Double-check that you can actually select the ID you plan to bring before submitting.
Once approved, you can schedule your visit. Submit your request through the Georgia DOC visitation form. Don't skip the approval step - you can't request a visit until you're on the list.
Before submitting a visit request, check the timing and make sure your ID choice won't cause problems. These cutoffs trip up a lot of first-time visitors.
