Setting Up a Securus Phone Account for Calls with an Inmate (costs, limits, and rules)

Georgia Department of Corrections uses Securus Technologies for inmate phone calls. You can set up a pre-paid collect account or a direct bill account through the Securus Technologies website, or by calling 1-800-844-6591. Once your account is active, you manage everything in one place. If your family uses more than one phone, you can add multiple numbers to a single pre-paid collect account - so calls reach you wherever you actually answer.

Tip: Juggling a cell phone, home phone, and maybe a partner's number? Add them all to the same Securus pre-paid collect account to keep funding and tracking simpler.

When you fund a Securus pre-paid collect account, know the per-deposit cap: $200.00 maximum. If you need to add more, you'll have to break it into separate deposits.

Fees are a common worry with phone accounts. Good news here: Securus lists a $0.00 funding fee for pre-paid collect deposits made via IVR, the website, and similar methods.

The key number for budgeting is the per-minute rate: $0.06 for local and long-distance calls. A 25-minute call costs $1.50. To estimate your weekly or monthly phone budget, just multiply $0.06 by the minutes you expect to talk.

Calls have a built-in cutoff: 25 minutes maximum. That limit sets a predictable "max call cost" at the posted rate. Expect calls to end at the 25-minute mark - then your person can call again later.

Cost example: At $0.06/minute, a full 25-minute call is $1.50 (25 × $0.06).

Calling Rules

  • Assume calls may be monitored and recorded.
  • Don’t use call forwarding or three-way calling - those aren’t permitted.
  • Make sure the phone number you want calls on is included on the offender’s Call Allow List, since calls are restricted to numbers on that list.

Privacy reminder: Calls may be monitored and recorded. Treat phone time like a public conversation and skip any sensitive details.
