What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind) for a Visit at Camille Graham
A little prep before you leave home can save you a wasted trip. Use this checklist to make sure everyone in your group has the right ID—and to avoid bringing items that aren't allowed at Camille Graham.
Anyone age 10 or older needs a government-issued photo ID to enter Camille Graham. Staff check IDs during the entry process, so keep yours with you - not in the car - before you get in line.
ID requirements for kids depend on age. Children nine and younger need a certified long-form birth certificate. Once a child turns 10, they need the same government-issued photo ID as adults. Sort this out before visit day - especially if you're bringing multiple children.
Electronics Ban
- ✓ Cell phones or any personal wireless device that communicates
- ✓ Smartwatches
- ✓ Activity/fitness trackers
- ✓ Anything that connects via Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, or cellular (this ban has been in place since February 1, 2016)
- ✓ Best practice: leave these items at home, or locked in your vehicle before you enter
Reminder: Personal wireless devices (including smartwatches and fitness trackers) aren’t allowed inside SCDC institutions, even if you’re used to wearing them every day.
Camille Graham follows the South Carolina Department of Corrections tobacco-free policy. Tobacco and tobacco-related products aren't allowed anywhere on agency property - not just inside buildings. Leave cigarettes, vapes, chewing tobacco, lighters, matches, and any tobacco paraphernalia at home to avoid problems at check-in.
- Pack the right document for each child - If you’re bringing a child age nine or younger, bring their certified long-form birth certificate. (Visitors age 10 and older should be ready with a government-issued photo/public safety ID.)
- Plan restroom breaks before you go in - During a two-hour visit, visitors may use the visitation room restroom one time.
- Go together if you have young kids - If a child age nine or younger is with you, they must accompany the adult to the restroom, and that counts as the one-time restroom use for both of you.
