How to Address Mail to an Inmate at Canyon County Jail (scanned mail policy, two addresses)

Canyon County started scanning inmate mail on January 29, 2024. Your original paper letter never reaches your loved one directly - the jail scans it and delivers it electronically. This means how you prepare and address your mail matters. If it can't be processed for scanning, it won't make it through.

Note: The scanned-mail process took effect January 29, 2024. After March 29, 2024, mail sent to any address other than the two approved addresses will be rejected.

The jail only accepts inmate mail at two specific addresses. Pick one of the approved addresses below and use it exactly as written - otherwise your letter won't be processed.

Reminder: After March 29, 2024, mail received at addresses other than the two approved addresses will be rejected.

On the front of the envelope, write the inmate's full name and inmate ID. You'll also need a return address - mail without one doesn't meet the jail's requirements and may be rejected.

Here’s a simple way to format it (use the real name and ID): [Inmate Full Name - Inmate ID] Canyon County Jail [Choose ONE approved address from the list above] Return address (on the envelope): [Your Name] [Your Street Address] [City, State ZIP]

Since mail goes through a sheet-fed scanner, size and thickness matter. Keep it to 8½ x 11 inches (letter size) or smaller, and no thicker than light card stock - regular paper or thin cardstock works fine. Anything oversized or too stiff to feed through the scanner will be stopped before it reaches the inmate.

Watch out: Anything thicker than light card stock, or anything that can’t be fed through a sheet-fed scanner, doesn’t meet the jail’s mail-format requirements.

After your mail is scanned and sent to the inmate, the original is destroyed. If you're thinking about sending something you'd want back as a keepsake, keep a copy - the paper original won't be returned.
