Canyon County S.I.L.D. Program: Fees, No-Show Penalties, Clothing, and Prohibited Items

S.I.L.D. is run by the Canyon County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), and participants need to follow the program's rules closely. For anyone supporting someone enrolled, the day-to-day issues usually boil down to three things: money (fees and how to pay), attendance (what happens if they miss a day), and showing up dressed right with nothing prohibited in their pockets.

Monthly fees depend on the case. Canyon County cases pay $25.00 per month. Non-Canyon County cases pay $30.00 per month. One-day sentences cost $15.00.

  • Pay with cash or money order only, and bring exact change.
  • Track the monthly due date by the day of the month it falls on - for example, a payment period can run from the 11th through the 10th of the next month.

Missing a scheduled workday is costly. No-shows forfeit any fees already paid. To get back on the schedule, participants must pay a $25 no-show fee on top of that. There are no refunds, so double-check schedules and transportation before each crew day.

  • Rescheduling a workday must be done in person, and there’s a $10 fee.
  • Plan with the “no refunds” policy in mind before paying or changing days.

Packing Dress

  • Bring your own gloves.
  • Bring sunscreen.
  • Bring a hat.
  • Dress for the weather - participants may be working outside.
  • Wear a shirt at all times.
  • Wear shoes or boots at all times.

Certain clothing isn't allowed on workdays. Skip the sandals, spandex, shorts, tank tops, and anything revealing. Gang colors are prohibited, along with clothing featuring offensive or drug-related imagery. Keep it simple and work-appropriate.

Prohibited Items

  • Tobacco, tobacco products, or nicotine products
  • Vapes, matches, or lighters
  • Weapons, pocket knives, or other sharp objects
  • Radios, cell phones, or electronic devices
  • Any tools that aren’t issued by S.I.L.D.

Warning: If a participant is found with prohibited items (like nicotine products, sharp objects, or electronics), they may lose credit for the day and may be removed from the program.

Practical Checklist

  • Confirm the monthly fee amount: $25/month for Canyon County cases, $30/month if not a Canyon County case.
  • If the sentence is for one day, plan for the $15 fee.
  • Bring payment as exact cash or a money order - no other payment types.
  • Mark the due date by the day of the month (example: 11th through the 10th).
  • Avoid no-shows - missing a scheduled day forfeits fees already paid and triggers a $25 no-show fee to keep working.
  • Remember the policy is no refunds.
  • If a day needs to be changed, reschedule in person and expect the $10 rescheduling fee.
  • Pack gloves, sunscreen, and a hat, and dress for outdoor weather.
  • Make sure a shirt and shoes/boots are worn at all times.
  • Don’t wear sandals, spandex, shorts, tank tops, revealing clothing, gang colors, or clothing with offensive or drug-related printing.
  • Empty pockets and bags before crew time: no tobacco/nicotine, no vapes/matches/lighters.
  • Leave all weapons, pocket knives, and sharp objects behind.
  • Leave radios, cell phones, and electronic devices behind.
  • Don’t bring tools unless they’re issued by S.I.L.D.

Quick reminder: Bring exact cash or a money order - no change given, no refunds. A no-show means forfeiting fees already paid plus a $25 fee to continue. Keep a copy of the S.I.L.D. rules handy for reference.
