SWIJDC approves parents, grandparents, and guardians as visitors. Anyone else? The juvenile must submit a request form (available from detention staff), and staff have to approve it before a visit can happen.

Juveniles get two one-hour visits per week. If you're coordinating with other approved visitors, sort out who's using which slot ahead of time.

SWIJDC offers three visit formats: phone visits, Webex visits, and no-contact visits. Which one you get depends on the day and time slot, so check the schedule before booking.

  • Monday–Thursday: Webex and phone visits, 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday: Webex and no-contact visits, 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: no-contact and phone visits, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Phone calls work differently than you might expect. When first admitted, juveniles can call to notify parents of their status. After that, they're allowed at least two calls per week to a parent, grandparent, or guardian.

Note: Incoming telephone calls for juveniles are not accepted.

All mail to juveniles must include your return address. Send letters to: Juvenile's Name, SW. Idaho Juvenile Detention Center, 222 North 12th Avenue, Caldwell, ID 83605.

You're required to pick up your child at release. Bring a valid photo ID - without it, the release will be delayed.

Important: If you refuse to pick up your child upon release, the Center will notify the Department of Health and Welfare and local law enforcement to initiate abandonment charges.

You may be charged for your child's time in detention. Under Idaho Code 20-524(2), the court can set an amount you're responsible for paying to cover detention costs.
