What You Can and Can't Send to Someone at Carter County Jail (Mail Checklist)
Mail gets rejected for small, fixable reasons. Follow the rules and checklist below so your letter or photos actually make it through at Carter County Jail.
Every envelope needs clear information on both sides. Include the sender's full first and last name plus complete return address. For the recipient, write the inmate's full first and last name along with the jail's full address. Missing names or incomplete addresses lead to delays - or outright rejection. Before sealing the envelope, double-check that you haven't used nicknames or initials. Write out full names, include complete addresses for both sender and recipient, and make sure everything is clean and readable.
Photos Requirements
- ✓ Photos must be printed on photo paper.
- ✓ Photos must be no larger than 4 x 6 inches.
Photo restriction: Carter County Jail won't accept photos that are graphic, suggestive, or otherwise inappropriate.
Skip the lipstick, lip gloss, perfume, or any scented substance on letters and cards. Even a kiss mark or a spritz of fragrance can get the whole piece rejected.
Leave metallic items out of the envelope. Carter County Jail doesn't allow metallic fixtures or stickers - no metal fasteners, no shiny decorations.
Don't send blank supplies. Carter County Jail prohibits blank paper, blank envelopes, and stamps in inmate mail.
Leave out internet printouts and clipped items. Printed social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), newspaper clippings, and comic strips aren't allowed.
Note: Unauthorized correspondence between inmates (or between an inmate and someone in a rehabilitation facility) is prohibited.
Mail that breaks these rules gets rejected. Carter County Jail sends a rejection notice when something doesn't comply, so keep an eye out if your letter doesn't arrive.
