Before you can visit anyone at Cedar Creek, you need to submit a visitor application. No exceptions. Every proposed visitor needs their own separate application, including minors. Bringing a group? Make sure each person's application is submitted individually.
Right now, visitor applications are taking approximately 50 business days to process from the date of submission. Since "business days" excludes weekends and holidays, the actual calendar time can stretch well beyond what you'd expect. Plan accordingly.
Warning: Don't submit multiple applications for the same visitor. Duplicates can delay processing, void your earlier submission, and restart the clock entirely.
Hold off on travel arrangements until you receive written approval by email. Waiting saves you from making an unnecessary trip.
Thinking about a video visit instead of traveling? The same application and approval process applies. Once approved, video visits are scheduled through Securus at least 24 hours in advance in 30-minute increments.
If you're 18 or older, bring a valid, current government-issued photo ID. Expired or unacceptable IDs will get you turned away at check-in, even if you drove hours to get there.
Expect to be searched. Under DOC policy, staff can search all visitors, their belongings, vehicles, and any container or bag brought onto institution grounds.
Note: Refusing a required search means a 90-day suspension from visiting on the first offense. Refuse a second time and your visit privileges are revoked entirely.
In-person visits are first come, first served. If the visit room hits capacity, you'll be turned away. Arriving early helps, and it's worth planning your day with that possibility in mind.
Before you go, check the Cedar Creek Corrections Center listing on the DOC website for current visitor guidelines, visiting hours, and the event calendar. That's the most reliable place to confirm you're following Cedar Creek's latest rules.
