WVDC Visit Checklist: What to Bring and When to Arrive
Get to West Valley Detention Center (WVDC) at least 30 minutes before your scheduled visit. This buffer isn't optional - staff need it to check you in and complete screening. Show up without those 30 minutes to spare, and you can be turned away even with an appointment.
Note: Arriving less than 30 minutes early can mean losing your visit. Build in traffic and parking time so you’re not cutting it close.
Acceptable ID
- ✓ A valid photo ID (required for all visitors)
- ✓ Driver’s license
- ✓ Consulate ID
- ✓ Passport
Check-in starts with staff verifying your photo ID, then you'll go through screening before you can visit. The whole process takes time - that's why WVDC requires you to arrive at least 30 minutes early. If you don't leave enough time to complete check-in and screening, you may be denied the visit.
Running late or forgot your valid photo ID? Call WVDC before making the drive. The facility requires visitors to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled time for check-in and screening. Miss that window and you'll likely be turned away - better to confirm your options by phone than show up and get denied at the door.
Reminder: WVDC’s posted rules state visitors must have identification and must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled visit; visitors who don’t may be turned away.
Quick Checklist
- ✓ Bring a valid photo ID (driver’s license, consulate ID, or passport)
- ✓ Know your scheduled visit time and plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early
- ✓ Have the facility address saved: 9500 Etiwanda Ave, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739
- ✓ Double-check the visiting schedule before you go: WVDC’s facility page lists Tuesday–Saturday, 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m., but county-wide postings can differ - confirm the current days/times with the facility so you don’t show up on the wrong day
A few headcount rules to know: visits are limited to two visitors per inmate, and generally one must be an adult (the second can be an adult or a minor). One exception: WVDC allows minor children who are at least 12 years old to visit an incarcerated parent without an adult present.
