Who Can Visit Together at WVDC? Understanding the Two-Visitor Rule
At West Valley Detention Center (WVDC), each visit is limited to two visitors per inmate. Usually, one visitor must be an adult - the second can be another adult or a minor. This rule determines who can go in together, so decide ahead of time which two people will attend.
Plan on a little extra time at the start of your visit. You’ll need to bring identification, and you’re required to arrive at least 30 minutes before your visit so staff can check you in and screen you.
Yes - there's an exception for children visiting a parent. Minor children who are at least 12 years old can visit an incarcerated parent without an adult present. The age cutoff matters: the child must be 12 or older for this option.
Even with multiple people wanting to visit, the schedule is tight. An inmate can have a maximum of two visits per week, with one hour total visiting time each week until further notice. Since each visit is capped at two visitors, families often rotate who visits from week to week.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Schedule your visit online through the Inmate Locator/Visiting online scheduling service (appointments can be made any time the day before the visit).
- ✓ If you don’t have internet access (or prefer not to use online scheduling), schedule by phone at (909) 887-0364 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Tuesday to Friday.
- ✓ Coordinate with family ahead of time so the two visitor “slots” for that appointment go to the right people.
- ✓ If different relatives want to visit, plan a rotation around the two-visits-per-week limit.
- Schedule the appointment - Use the online scheduling service, or call (909) 887-0364 (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday to Friday) if you’re scheduling by phone.
- Double-check the details before you go - Make sure you and your second visitor are the two people attending that visit.
- Arrive early with ID - You’re required to have identification and to arrive at least 30 minutes before the visit for check-in and screening.
Note: Published visiting hours don't match across county pages - one lists Wednesday–Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m., while the WVDC page lists Tuesday–Saturday, 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Confirm the current hours when you schedule so you don't show up on the wrong day.
