Topic Overviews

Visitation

Before visiting Central New Mexico Correctional Facility, you'll need to complete the NMCD visitor application (CD-100201.1) and sign the Visitor Statement of Understanding. Approvals must be renewed every two years, and you must be on the inmate's current approved visitation list before showing up. In-person visits are scheduled Monday through Friday, at least one week in advance, in two-hour blocks: 8 to 10, 10 to 12, or 1 to 3. CNMCF also offers a two-day option where the same visitors complete two two-hour visits on consecutive days. Visits are non-contact barrier visits unless you're immediate family and have provided proof of kinship. Inmates in restrictive housing cannot receive visits. Follow the dress code: hats, scarves, bandanas, and headbands are prohibited. Expect mandatory strip-searches on entry and exit. Refusing a strip-search cancels or suspends the visit.

Communication

Central New Mexico Correctional Facility (CNMCF) provides in-cell tablets that support email, books, media, games, photographs, religious and educational materials, and re-entry resources. These tablets are remotely reviewable and monitored. For phone communication, the New Mexico Corrections Department uses a system supporting both real-time and historical monitoring, so calls can be reviewed live or from archived recordings. Vendors are also required to monitor at least 10% of calls. To use electronic messaging or video services, you'll generally need to create an account with the approved communications vendor, add funds for calls and messaging, and follow the vendor's scheduling rules. Attorneys may have separate procedures for privileged legal communications.

Sending Commissary

To send money to someone at Central New Mexico Correctional Facility, mailed funds generally must come by U.S. mail as a money order (the facility lists limited exceptions). The facility will only credit mailed funds if you're on the inmate's approved visitor list, so confirm your status before sending anything. When preparing the money order, follow the facility's required format and include the inmate's full name and facility ID exactly as specified. Some facilities also accept approved vendor deposits, phone or online payments, or lobby kiosks. Check the CNMCF facility page to confirm what's currently accepted. Processing times and instructions can change, so verify the latest rules before mailing funds.
