Contact vs. Non‑Contact Visits at CNMCF: When Proof of Kinship Is Required
In-person visits at CNMCF are barrier (non-contact) visits by default. Contact visits are only available if you qualify as immediate family and the facility has proof of kinship on file.
At CNMCF, the standard in-person visit is a barrier visit - you and your loved one are separated, and physical contact isn't allowed. Contact visits are only possible if you're immediate family and proof of kinship is already on file. If you don't fall into that category, or if the relationship hasn't been documented the way the facility requires, your visit will be non-contact.
In-person visits at CNMCF are held Monday through Friday, scheduled in two-hour blocks. The facility may also offer a two-day option: two hours on the first day, two hours on the second, with the days back-to-back and the same visitors attending both.
"Immediate family" has a specific definition under NMCD policy. It includes a legal spouse, natural or adoptive parents, stepparents or foster parents, grandparents, siblings, and children (natural, adopted, or step), as well as grandchildren. Aunts, uncles, and cousins don't qualify unless there's a bona fide foster relationship. Common-law relationships aren't recognized either.
Under 18 visitors: A minor won’t be allowed into a corrections facility unless they’re properly identified and accompanied by a responsible adult relative, a parent, or a legal guardian - or they present documented proof that the minor is legally married to the inmate.
Whether you're hoping for a contact visit or just a standard barrier visit, your name has to be on the inmate's approved visitation list. Getting on that list starts with the New Mexico Corrections Department's Visitor Application for Visiting Privileges, form CD-100201.1.
Keep your approval current: The Visitor Application for Visiting Privileges (CD-100201.1) has to be submitted for renewal every two years.

- ✓ Confirm you’re on the inmate’s current approved visitation list before you make plans to travel.
- ✓ If you’re not approved yet, ask about submitting the Visitor Application for Visiting Privileges (CD-100201.1).
- ✓ Put a reminder on your calendar: the visitor application must be renewed every two years.
Before you plan on a contact visit: Confirm with CNMCF what they will accept as proof of kinship for immediate-family contact visits, and make sure that documentation has been provided.
Once you're approved, plan around the weekday schedule. Visits run Monday through Friday, so you'll likely need to arrange time off work or school. If the two-day consecutive option works better, ask about booking two hours on back-to-back days with the same visitors.
