Video Visits at CNMCF: Why You Can't Schedule Through the Facility Anymore (and What to Do)

CNMCF no longer schedules video visits through facility staff. All video visits now run through Smart Communication on the inmate tablets. You'll schedule and access visits through that tablet-based system instead of calling CNMCF directly.

After legal mail is scanned and sent to the tablet, the inmate can decide what happens to the original. They can choose to have the originals shredded, or returned to the sender (at the inmate’s own cost). If the inmate needs a paper copy of the legal mail, the facility will make a copy at no cost.

Before you can schedule a tablet-based video visit, you need approval through the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD). This approval step comes first and is separate from anything you might try to arrange directly with CNMCF.

1. Confirm you are approved through NMCD. If you are not approved yet, you will not be able to schedule tablet video visits.
2. Plan to schedule through Smart Communication. CNMCF staff will not schedule the video visit for you since video visits are handled through the inmate tablet system.
3. Make sure your loved one can access their tablet. Video visits happen on the inmate tablet, so your loved one needs to be able to use that device on their end.
4. Follow the Smart Communication scheduling flow. Once you are approved, use the platform’s process to choose and set a visit time.
