How to schedule your first in-person visit at Central Prison (Raleigh, NC)

Visits are by appointment only - you can't just show up. To schedule, call or email the prison where your loved one is housed. Staff will set up your visit time.

Your visitor application must be completed and approved before you can visit. Handle this step first. Without an approved application on file, you won't be allowed in - even if you've scheduled an appointment.

Here's how the paperwork works: the offender gets blank visitor application forms from the facility and sends them out. Each offender can be issued up to 18 blank applications to distribute to people they want on their visitor list.

Call the prison the day before your visit to confirm everything is still on. A quick phone call can save you a long drive if something changes last minute.

Checkin Expectations

• ✓ Bring what you need to show you’re approved to visit (your completed visitor application must be approved by facility staff before a visit can occur).
• ✓ If you’re 16 or older, expect a pat/frisk search before entering.
• ✓ If you’re 16 or older, expect an electronic device search before entering.
• ✓ If you refuse to comply with the search procedures, you will be denied entrance.
