How to Send Money to Facility
Sending money is usually straightforward once you know where funds get processed and how to enter the inmate's information. Follow these rules so your deposit lands in the right account.
Money you send goes into the inmate's commissary account, which works like a basic bank account managed by the facility. The inmate uses those funds to buy commissary items (things not regularly issued by the institution).
Warning: Do not send money to this facility's postal address. Mailed funds must be addressed to a central processing center in Des Moines, Iowa.
If you're sending funds through MoneyGram, the Account Number must follow a specific format. Combine the inmate's eight-digit register number with their last name, no spaces or dashes (example: 12345678DOE). Even small formatting errors can cause delays or misrouting, so double-check before you submit.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Confirm the inmate’s commissary account information you’ll need, especially their eight-digit register number and last name.
- ✓ If you are sending funds by mail, do not use the facility’s postal address. Address mailed funds to the central processing center in Des Moines, Iowa.
- ✓ If using MoneyGram, enter the Account Number as the eight-digit register number plus the last name, with no spaces or dashes (example: 12345678DOE).
Before mailing any money, confirm you're sending it to the central processing center in Des Moines, Iowa, not the facility's address. Using the wrong destination can delay processing or prevent the funds from reaching the account.
For MoneyGram transfers, make sure the register number is exactly eight digits and the last name matches what the facility has on file. Combine those two pieces with no spaces or dashes to form the Account Number.
Tip: Ask how deposits appear in the inmate's commissary account and whether there are any spending limits or restrictions.
