How to Visit Facility

The BOP welcomes visitors, but read the facility's visiting regulations before you go. If you're planning travel, also check for any state or local travel advisories that could affect your trip.

Even if you've visited before, visits can be limited on short notice. The Warden can restrict or cancel visiting for safety and security reasons, including severe weather or other incidents that disrupt normal operations.

By law, an inmate is entitled to at least four hours of visiting time per month. Many facilities offer more, but four hours is the guaranteed minimum. Keep that baseline in mind when you're planning.

You cannot visit until two things are true: the inmate has added you to their approved visiting list, and the BOP has cleared you. Make sure both approvals are complete before you build plans around a specific date.
