The right mailing address depends on what you're sending. Regular personal mail and photos go through JailATM - either sent electronically or mailed to JailATM's Atlanta scanning address. Legal mail, religious material, and certain publications still go directly to the jail's Savannah address. Money orders and certified checks? Those go to the Sheriff's Office Finance and Accounting Services address, not JailATM.

  • Non-legal, non-commercial mail and photos (scanned/electronic delivery) - send electronically through JailATM or mail to: JailATM.com – Chatham County Jail
  • INMATE ID #: INMATE FULL NAME
  • 925B Peachtree St. NE, Box 2062
  • Atlanta, GA 30309
  • Soft cover books (ordered through a commercial vendor), magazine subscriptions, legal mail, and religious material - mail to:
  • Inmate ID # - Inmate Full Name
  • Chatham County Jail
  • 1074 Carl Griffin Drive
  • Savannah, GA 31405
  • Money orders or certified checks (for deposit to an inmate’s account) - address to:
  • Chatham County Sheriff’s Office
  • Finance and Accounting Services
  • Inmate ID # - Inmate Full Name
  • 1050 Carl Griffin Drive
  • Savannah, GA 31405

All non-legal, non-commercial mail must go through JailATM. You can either send it electronically through their system or mail it to JailATM's Atlanta address for scanning. The vendor reviews incoming items, scans them, and delivers them electronically to the inmate via kiosks or tablets. Photos work the same way - reviewed, scanned, and delivered digitally.

Note: Once the vendor scans and delivers an item electronically, the original is destroyed. Don't expect the inmate to receive the paper copy.

Prohibited Content Contraband

  • Racy or pornographic images
  • Pictures or descriptions of illegal activities
  • Pictures or descriptions of self-defense tactics, locksmith instructions, escape techniques, or similar hazardous material
  • Any mailed items other than authorized items (soft cover books from commercial vendors, magazine subscriptions, legal mail, and religious material) - treated as contraband and destroyed

The jail limits what inmates can receive by mail. Only a few categories are authorized: soft cover books from commercial vendors, magazine subscriptions, legal mail, and religious material. Everything else is contraband and will be destroyed. For personal mail processed through JailATM, there's no "send it back" option - originals are destroyed after scanning. Don't send anything you'd want returned.

How to Send Mail & Photos to Someone at Chatham County Jail (Using JailATM and the correct addresses)
  1. Get the inmate’s full name and ID number - you’ll need both, and you should clearly print them on the outside of the envelope or postcard so the mail doesn’t get lost or misdirected.
  2. Match the address to what you’re sending - personal non-legal/non-commercial mail goes through JailATM (electronically or to the Atlanta scanning address). Soft cover books from commercial vendors, magazine subscriptions, legal mail, and religious material go to the jail’s Savannah address.
  3. Double-check the outside of the envelope before you send - after August 1, 2020, non-legal and commercial mail that isn’t addressed properly will be returned or discarded.

Heads up: Letters marked "Return to Sender" are destroyed if received after Feb. 22, 2021. Non-legal and commercial mail that isn't properly addressed may be returned or discarded.

Photos don't arrive as physical prints. They're reviewed and scanned by the mail vendor, then delivered electronically. If a photo crosses into prohibited territory - racy or pornographic images, depictions of illegal activity, or content about self-defense tactics, locksmithing, or escape techniques - it will be rejected.

  • Stick to everyday, family-friendly photos (avoid anything racy or pornographic)
  • Skip anything that shows or describes illegal activity
  • Don’t include images or text that get into self-defense tactics, locksmith instructions, escape techniques, or similar hazardous material
  • Remember: photos are reviewed and scanned, then delivered electronically - not handed over as original prints

Before mailing anything important - money orders, legal mail, publications - double-check you're using the right address. Chatham County Jail uses JailATM's Atlanta scanning address for non-legal/non-commercial mail and a Savannah address for approved items. If you're unsure which applies, contact the Chatham County Sheriff's Complex at 1050 Carl Griffin Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31405, phone 912-652-7700.
