How to Send Money to Someone at Chatham County Jail (addresses, fees, limits, and what happens at release)
There are three ways to put money on someone's account at Chatham County Jail: deposit online through JailATM, use the public deposit kiosks (available 24/7), or mail a money order or certified check. Online deposits go through the JailATM website, and the Chatham County Sheriff's Office states it is not responsible for that site. If you're mailing funds, address them to the Sheriff's Office Finance and Accounting Services and include the inmate's ID number and full name.
Head to the JailATM website to deposit money into an inmate's account online. Each deposit carries a $2.50 transaction fee. Because this is a third-party service, double-check the inmate's information before submitting. Save your confirmation or receipt afterward.
Note: The Chatham County Sheriff's Office says it is not responsible for the JailATM website. If something seems off with an online deposit, start by reviewing your JailATM receipt and transaction details.
Deposit kiosks are open to the public 24 hours a day. The same $2.50 transaction fee applies to kiosk deposits (as well as transactions through JailATM or an ATM).
Prefer to mail funds? Send a money order or certified check to the Sheriff's Office finance department. Address it exactly like this, with the inmate's ID number and full legal name on the address block: Chatham County Sheriff's Office Finance and Accounting Services Inmate ID # - Inmate Full Name 1050 Carl Griffin Drive Savannah, GA 31405
- ✓ Use a money order or certified check (not cash)
- ✓ Include the inmate’s ID number and full name in the format: Inmate ID # - Inmate Full Name
- ✓ Mail it to: Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Finance and Accounting Services, 1050 Carl Griffin Drive, Savannah, GA 31405
The daily deposit cap is $300 per visitor, per inmate. If your situation falls under an approved exception, have supporting documents ready so the jail can process it outside the standard limit.
- ✓ Bonds (supporting documents required)
- ✓ Fines (supporting documents required)
- ✓ Child support payments (supporting documents required)
- ✓ Work release program (supporting documents required)
Every deposit through JailATM, a deposit kiosk, or an ATM costs $2.50. If you're trying to keep costs down, combining funds into fewer deposits means paying that fee less often. Also worth noting: the Sheriff's Office is not responsible for the JailATM website. Save your transaction details in case you ever need to follow up on an online deposit.
When the inmate is released, any remaining balance gets loaded onto a debit card. They can use it right away at any location that accepts credit cards.
Mailing a deposit? Write the inmate's ID number and full name exactly as required, and use the Finance and Accounting Services address. For online or kiosk deposits, double-check that you've selected the right inmate before hitting submit. Regardless of the method, keep your receipt or confirmation number. It's your best proof of the amount sent, the date, and the fee charged. For online deposits especially, your receipt matters. The Sheriff's Office states it is not responsible for the JailATM website, so that confirmation is your main tool for tracking down any issues.
