What Inmates Can Do on the Kiosks and Tablets at Chatham County Jail
Wondering how your loved one reads messages, orders commissary, or submits requests while in custody? The housing-area kiosks and tablets handle most of that.
Inmates access kiosks and tablets in the housing areas for most everyday jail services. They can check announcements, pull up the inmate handbook, and stay current on rules (which do change). These same devices are how inmates view their mail after it's been scanned into the system. They can also order commissary directly from the housing area and submit requests or grievances. Video visitation with family and friends happens through the kiosks and tablets too. New to the system? The handbook mentions a tutorial available on the devices after sign-in that walks inmates through how everything works.
The kiosks and tablets aren't just for administrative tasks. Inmates can access educational content, recreational material, and leisure reading. Games are available, and there's a legal research function built in. So when your loved one mentions "using the kiosk," they could be talking about any of these options, not just commissary or mail.
Note: Attorney video visits can be set up through JailATM with a Privileged User registration. Those privileged communications are encrypted, and the video visits are not recorded or monitored.
At Chatham County, regular personal mail (non-legal, non-commercial) goes through JailATM's electronic mail process. You either send it electronically through JailATM or mail it to the vendor's address in Atlanta for processing. Either way, the result is the same for the inmate: they view their mail on the housing-area kiosks or tablets rather than receiving the original paper letter.
- ✓ Non-legal, non-commercial mail is handled through JailATM’s electronic mail process.
- ✓ If you mail it instead of sending it electronically, it goes to the vendor processing address: JailATM.com – Chatham County Jail, INMATE ID #, INMATE FULL NAME, 925B Peachtree St. NE, Box 2062, Atlanta, GA 30309.
- ✓ Your loved one will view the scanned mail on the housing-area kiosks/tablets.
Helping with commissary? Here's how it works. Friends and family add money to an inmate's account through JailATM, and the inmate uses those funds to buy personal items and snacks from the jail's commissary. Each deposit through JailATM carries a $2.50 transaction fee. Once funds hit the account, your loved one places commissary orders through the housing-area kiosks or tablets.
- Send personal mail the right way - Use JailATM’s electronic mail option or mail it to the vendor processing address so it can be scanned and delivered to the kiosk/tablet.
- Add commissary funds before they order - If you want an order to go through, make sure money is on the account first (and plan for the $2.50 fee per transaction).
- Confirm with your loved one - They can check for scanned mail on the kiosk/tablet, and they can tell you if commissary was ordered successfully.
Tip: Since mail is delivered electronically for viewing on the kiosk or tablet, timing can feel different from traditional paper mail. And remember: JailATM charges $2.50 each time you add money.
