All personal inmate mail for the Cherokee Sheriff's Office goes to JailATM's central processing address - not the jail itself. On the envelope, write the incarcerated person's full name and inmate number exactly as the jail lists it, then mail to: JAILATM.com - Cherokee Sheriff's Office, Inmate Name / Inmate Number, 925B Peachtree St. NE, Box 2062, Atlanta, GA 30309.

Example (how to address it): JAILATM.com - Cherokee Sheriff’s Office - John Doe / 20000261 - 925B Peachtree St. NE, Box 2062, Atlanta, GA 30309.

How to Send Personal Mail to Someone at Cherokee County Jail (JailATM central processing)

Since December 18, 2023, Cherokee Sheriff's Office routes all *personal* inmate mail through JailATM's central processing facility. Your letter gets opened there, scanned, and delivered electronically to the inmate at the jail. The original paper isn't kept long - it's discarded within 60 days of receipt. Good news: the scanning and email service is free for both you and the inmate.

  1. Address your personal mail to the JailATM processing center - include the inmate’s name and inmate number so it can be matched correctly.
  2. Mail is opened and scanned at the processing center - personal mail is processed there rather than at the jail.
  3. The scan is delivered electronically to the inmate - the inmate receives the mail as an electronic delivery at the facility.
  4. Assume the paper original won’t be returned - once scanned, originals are discarded within 60 days.
  5. If the inmate is released and needs copies later, request the scans from JailATM - the released inmate can submit their full name, the facility name, their inmate ID number, and an email address. After verification, JailATM emails a link to download the scanned mail.

Tip: If you need a keepsake or a record, keep your own copy before you mail it - originals are discarded within 60 days after scanning.

Keep your envelope manageable. Mail sent to the processing center can't exceed 100 pages per envelope, and each page must be 8.5" x 11" or smaller. Got a lot to send? Split it into multiple envelopes so nothing gets rejected.

  • Written pages (handwritten letters)
  • Typed pages
  • Photos (non-Polaroid)
  • Drawings
  • Greeting cards
  • Polaroid photos
  • Glitter
  • Glue or tape
  • Any 3D elements (pop-ups or bulky add-ons)
  • Electronic components (lights, music, animation)
  • Photos of nude or partially clothed persons
  • Items containing, depicting, or relating to sexually explicit activity, gang activity, illegal activity, violence, or drug/alcohol use

Don't send magazines, books, packages, or publications of any kind to the JailATM processing center. Stick to personal correspondence that can be scanned - letters, photos, drawings, and greeting cards.

Legal or privileged mail shouldn't go to the JailATM processing center. Since that mail gets opened and scanned during processing, send legal mail directly to the facility's LEGAL MAIL address instead.

Don't send cash, personal checks, money orders, or government checks to the mail processing center. Those payments are handled at the facility - mail money and money orders directly to Inmate Records for processing.
