Phone Calls from Chippewa: PAN Lists, Quarterly Resets, and Current Rates
Planning for phone calls from Chippewa? Three things matter most: the GTL system MDOC uses, how the Personal Allowed Numbers (PAN) list works, and what calls actually cost per minute.
The Michigan Department of Corrections uses Global Tel*Link Corporation (GTL) for prisoner telephone service, including calls placed by people incarcerated at Chippewa.
Each prisoner's calling list is built around Personal Allowed Numbers (PAN). Under MDOC's GTL system, a prisoner can have up to 20 phone numbers on their PAN list. That limit means families often need to prioritize which numbers matter most.
PAN lists don't stay locked forever. They reset automatically each quarter - 1/1, 4/1, 7/1, and 10/1 - giving the prisoner a chance to update their approved numbers.
MDOC's published rate for ViaPath (GTL) prisoner calls is $0.0735 per minute, effective October 1, 2023. That per-minute rate doesn't include taxes or federal fees (like Federal Universal Service Fees), so your actual bill will be higher once those add-ons apply.
