What Happens to Photos and Messages During the CVSP Tablet Transition
When Chuckawalla Valley State Prison (CVSP) switches to the new tablet vendor, you'll use Securus instead of ViaPath for tablet services. Photos, e-messages, and other media purchased through ViaPath won't transfer to the new Securus tablets.
This isn't just a new login - it's a complete platform switch. ViaPath purchases live inside ViaPath's system, and that content can't be moved to Securus tablets. The bottom line: if something matters to you or your loved one, don't assume it will still be there after the transition.
- ✓ Photos purchased through ViaPath won’t show up on the new Securus tablets after CVSP transitions.
- ✓ E-messages purchased through ViaPath won’t carry over to Securus at CVSP.
- ✓ Other ViaPath media purchases won’t be available on the new tablets once the switch happens.
- ✓ If you want to keep something for your records, plan on saving it before the transition rather than after.
- Figure out what you can’t afford to lose - go through your ViaPath account history and identify the photos, e-messages, or other media you’d be upset to lose access to after CVSP moves to Securus.
- Save copies where ViaPath allows it - if there’s a download, export, or save option in your ViaPath account for any content, use it now so you’re not trying to do it during the changeover.
- Document what you paid for - keep a clear record of purchases and any remaining balance so you have the details handy if you need support or want to request a refund.
Got unused money sitting in ViaPath? You don't have to wait for the vendor switch to deal with it. Families can request refunds for unused balances through the ViaPath call center. Have your account details and purchase records ready when you call - it'll keep things moving.
Note: Don’t assume anything you bought on ViaPath will appear on Securus after CVSP transitions. If you’re requesting a refund, keep your purchase details and any confirmation information in one place.
Here's something that trips people up: leftover balances belonging to the incarcerated person are handled differently. When the vendor change happens, their remaining ViaPath balances get refunded automatically to their trust accounts - not back to you. If you're planning around tablet money, talk through what balance is whose so you're not expecting it to return to the same place.
Timing matters. Access can change quickly once CVSP hits its transition window. Check the CDCR rollout schedule for current dates, and remember - once CVSP transitions, you'll need to use Securus going forward.
- ✓ Treat transition dates as tentative; they can change.
- ✓ Expect intermittent outages at CVSP during the transition.
- ✓ Avoid relying on tablet messaging for time-sensitive communication around the changeover window.
- ✓ If you’re trying to save content or request a refund, do it ahead of the tentative transition period so you’re not stuck during an outage.
