Setting Up Video Visits with Someone at CBCC — Equipment, Scheduling, and Rules
Video visits are a straightforward way to stay connected, as long as you set things up the way CBCC requires. Here are the key steps, the account details that matter, and the rules that can affect your visiting privileges.
CBCC video visits have to be scheduled through the approved vendor at least 24 hours before the visit time. That 24-hour window is firm. If you want to visit tomorrow, schedule today. Planning around work, childcare, or time zones? Build in extra cushion. Getting the visit on the calendar early helps you avoid last-minute surprises and gives you room to pick a different time if needed.
Account Setup Tech
- ✓ Your own equipment for the video visit
- ✓ An internet connection strong enough to support the video visit
When you create your vendor account for CBCC video visits, use your legal first name, legal last name, and date of birth. Matching your legal information is the simplest way to avoid delays or account problems down the line. If you've recently changed your name or go by a nickname, stick with the legal version. It keeps your registration consistent with the facility's expectations for approved visitors.
CBCC video visits must follow Department policies, visitor guidelines, and the facility's Video Visit Expectations. Think of it like an in-person visit: the same behavioral standards apply. Video visiting is a privilege, and the facility expects it to be used appropriately. Violations can lead to anything from a warning to a suspension or full termination of your video visit privileges. That means a single visit could be interrupted, or your access could be revoked for future visits, depending on the situation.
Note: Violations can result in a warning, suspension, or termination of video visit privileges. Even minor issues can affect future visits, so take the rules seriously from the start.
Recording a CBCC video visit is strictly prohibited. That means no photos, no streaming, no posting any part of the visit, and no audio-only recordings. There is one narrow exception: recording may be allowed for clemency and/or legislative testimony, but only with advance approval from the Appointing Authority. Outside of that pre-approval process, assume that recording or sharing any portion of the visit will be treated as a serious violation.
You can't record the visit yourself, but CBCC does record video visits. Those recordings are stored in a vendor-owned system that is not owned or maintained by the Department. Designated Department employees may live-monitor visits and review recordings to check for compliance with policy. The safest approach: keep your conversation normal, follow the rules, and avoid anything that could look like misconduct.
If your video visiting privileges are suspended or terminated, you'll receive a notification by email at the address the facility has on file. That notice will include the reason(s), how long the suspension lasts, and how to appeal. Make sure the email tied to your vendor account stays current and accessible.
