5 Things to Know Before Visiting CBCC on a Busy Day

When the visit room hits capacity, CBCC has a system to cycle visitors through. Staff log when each visitor enters, and once someone has been inside for 4 hours, they may be asked to leave so others can come in. On crowded days, this can cut your visit short - even if you arrived prepared and on time.

The room fills up fast partly because each incarcerated individual can have up to four approved adult visitors at once. If you're coordinating with family or friends, confirm who's coming beforehand. Showing up with more than the allowed number creates delays and frustration, especially when space is tight.

Note: In limited circumstances, visits may not be ended for people who traveled over 250 miles - even if CBCC is ending 4-hour visits to manage overcrowding.

Before you leave, check CBCC's Facility Alerts & Notices and the current visit/video visit schedules on the CBCC facility webpage. Visiting can be interrupted or cancelled without much warning, and on busy days you might arrive to find unexpected changes. A quick check saves you a wasted trip - or gives you time to adjust plans before you're already on the road.

5 Things to Know Before Visiting CBCC on a Busy Day
  1. Arrive at the speaker box 10–15 minutes early - that window gives you a better chance of getting processed before lines build.
  2. Wait at the speaker box for instructions - you must wait until the tower officer tells you to proceed.
  3. Park only after you’re instructed to proceed - once the tower officer clears you, then you’ll locate a parking spot on the visitor side of the parking lot.
  • A valid, current-photo ID if you’re 18 or older (driver’s license, state ID, or passport)
  • A plan for ID issues: expired or non-photo ID generally won’t be accepted unless the Superintendent/designee approves it in an exceptional situation
  • Readiness to sign DOC 21-575 Acknowledgment of Visitor Search Requirements before visiting
  • Extra time and patience for possible searches (pat, electronic, vehicle, personal property, and/or canine)

If you're turned away or asked to leave because the room is full, don't assume you did something wrong. On crowded days, staff manage capacity by tracking entry times and ending visits once someone hits the 4-hour mark. Ask what your options are - whether you can wait and try again, for example. Check CBCC's Facility Alerts & Notices and schedules on the CBCC facility webpage to see if there's a posted interruption affecting the rest of the day.

Tip: Because CBCC keeps a log of when visitors enter the visit room during overcrowding, write down your arrival time and any instructions you were given. If you need to follow up later, those details help you explain what happened clearly.
