Sending Photos to Clarinda Correctional Facility: Pelipost vs. Mailing Through Pigeonly

Getting photos to someone at Clarinda Correctional Facility? Iowa DOC gives you two options. Pelipost is the DOC-approved photo service - upload pictures through their app or website, the facility screens them, and they're delivered directly. Your other option is mailing photos through the Pigeonly route, where non-legal mail goes through a central processing system instead of straight to the prison.

Heads up: Non-legal mail sent directly to an Iowa DOC facility gets returned to sender. For photos, stick with Pelipost or use the Pigeonly mailing addresses.

  1. Upload your photos in Pelipost - Use the Pelipost mobile app or website to choose and submit the pictures you want to send.
  2. Wait for screening - Facility personnel screen the photos to make sure they follow Iowa DOC rules.
  3. Pelipost prints and ships - After approval, Pelipost prints your order and ships the professionally printed photos directly to the correctional facility.
  4. Your loved one receives the photo products - Because Pelipost is a print provider, the person inside receives actual photo products, not scanned copies.

Pelipost accepts 4x6 and 5x7 photos (up to 10 per order) plus greeting cards. If something goes wrong - upload glitches, questions about delivery - reach out to support@pelipost.com.

Sending photos by mail? Iowa DOC routes all non-legal mail through Pigeonly's central processing facility. Your envelope gets opened offsite, scanned into a digital color copy, and that printed copy goes to the facility. Pigeonly handles letters (including kids' drawings), greeting cards, postcards, and 4x6 photos (limit 10). For Clarinda, this only works if you use the Pigeonly mailing addresses - not the prison's direct address.

Keep in mind: Originals sent through Pigeonly processing aren't returned. They're stored temporarily, then securely destroyed under Iowa DOC policy.

Don't send non-legal mail directly to Clarinda Correctional Facility. Iowa DOC will return it. Use Pelipost for photos, or mail through the Pigeonly addresses.

Pelipost is usually the simplest choice if you want real printed photos in your loved one's hands. Upload from your phone or computer, facility staff screen the images, and Pelipost prints and ships directly to Clarinda. The person inside gets actual photos - not scans.

Mailing through Pigeonly feels more traditional - you're sending physical photos through USPS. But here's the catch: Pigeonly opens everything, scans it, and delivers a color copy. Your originals won't come back. Iowa DOC policy says they're stored temporarily, then securely destroyed. Pigeonly also offers paid add-ons like messaging and card services if you want more options beyond standard mail.
