Before you visit Clarke County Jail: approved list, ID rules, search policy, and dress code

Your name must be on the inmate's approved visitation list before you can visit. Confirm you're on it before making the trip - if you're not listed, you won't get in.

Bring a picture ID. You'll need to sign in and show it to staff during check-in.

Only four visitors can see an inmate at one time. Coming with a larger group? Decide beforehand who's going in together.

Bringing kids? Any child under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and supervised the entire visit.

You'll go through security screening, and staff can search you at any point during your visit. Dress simply and leave unnecessary items in your car.

  • Leave all personal property in your vehicle.
  • Secure valuables inside your car.
  • Keep handbags in your car.
  • Leave coats in your car.
  • Leave containers in your car.
  • Don’t leave items unattended - Clarke County Sheriff’s Office is not responsible for unattended property and may dispose of items left unattended.

Dress modestly. Shirt, shoes, and underwear are required. Your clothing must be clean - nothing with offensive odors, debris, or stains.

  • Jogging, wind, or soccer shorts
  • Spandex clothing
  • Tights, leotards, or other dancewear
  • Bathing/swimwear skirts with a hemline more than four inches above the knee
  • Tank, spaghetti-strap, mesh, or midriff shirts (including tops that reveal the bare midriff when both arms are raised)
  • Sheer, see-through, or otherwise revealing clothing
  • Clothing with visual or written messages referring to illicit drugs, alcohol, weapons, violence, vulgar or obscene language or images, gang affiliation or culture, or insults to another race, religion, gender, or ethnicity
  • Hats or hoods
  • Clothing similar to law enforcement, inmate, or medical staff uniforms
  • Double-layered clothing (more than one set of pants, shorts, shirt, socks, or footwear)

Follow staff directions and keep things calm. Getting loud or disruptive can end your visit early.

Note: Do not come into the jail or on the jail grounds under the influence of alcohol.

All visitation activity is recorded by electronic equipment.
