Before You Visit Clarke County Jail: Dress Code, Visitor Rules, and Prohibited Items
Your visit can go smoothly if you plan for the jail's video-only setup, bring the right ID, and follow the dress code and item restrictions.
You must be on the offender's approved visitation list before you can visit Clarke County Jail. No exceptions. Even if you drove in from out of town, staff will turn you away if your name isn't on the list.
Bring a photo ID. Clarke County Jail requires all visitors to sign in with a picture ID before their visit.
Clarke County Jail uses internet video visitation only. There's no in-person, in-lobby visiting. You can book a 15-minute scheduled video visit for $3.75, or choose an unscheduled visit charged per minute. Video visits are available on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The same hours apply on county holidays.
Clarke County Jail requires visitors to dress modestly whenever they're on facility grounds. At minimum, wear a shirt, shoes, and underwear.
- ✓ Jogging, wind, or soccer shorts
- ✓ Bathing/swimwear
- ✓ Skirts with a hemline more than four inches above the knee
- ✓ Tank, spaghetti-strap, mesh, or midriff shirts (including tops that reveal the bare midriff when both arms are raised)
- ✓ Sheer, see-through, or revealing clothing
- ✓ Spandex clothing, tights, leotards, or other dancewear
- ✓ Clothing with visual or written messages referencing illicit drugs, alcohol, weapons, violence, vulgar or obscene language/images, gang affiliation/culture, or insults to another race, religion, gender, or ethnicity
- ✓ Hats or hoods
- ✓ Double-layered clothing (more than one set of pants, shorts, shirt, socks, or footwear)
Reminder: Breaking the dress code can get you turned away. When in doubt, choose modest, simple clothing and avoid anything on the prohibited list.

Think of the jail like an airport checkpoint: bring as little as possible. If you don't need it to check in and complete your visit, leave it secured elsewhere. Bringing prohibited items can get you turned away.
Plan ahead: Secure all valuables, handbags, coats, and containers inside your car. The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office is not responsible for items left unattended and will dispose of them.
Keep your group size small. Clarke County Jail allows no more than four visitors per offender at one time.
Bringing kids? Plan to supervise them the entire time. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times.
- Confirm you’re on the approved list - Visitors must be on the offender’s approved visitation list or you will not be allowed to visit.
- Bring your picture ID - You must sign in using a picture ID prior to visiting an offender.
- Dress modestly from head to toe - Shirt, shoes, and underwear are required, and prohibited clothing can get you refused.
- Lock up personal items in your car - Secure valuables, handbags, coats, and containers; unattended items are not the Sheriff’s Office’s responsibility.
- Follow staff directions and keep it calm - Do what staff tell you and do not become loud or disruptive.
- Do not arrive under the influence of alcohol - Do not come into the jail or on jail grounds under the influence.
- Leave prohibited items behind - Weapons, controlled substances, alcohol, dangerous devices, tobacco/products, matches, and lighters are not permitted inside the jail.
