What to Expect During Visiting Hours at Clements Unit: Saturdays, Sundays, and the Two‑Hour Window

At TDCJ units, visiting hours normally take place on Saturdays and Sundays, running between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. That window is the overall time span the unit uses for weekend visitation, but the day can still feel tight once you factor in check-in and getting called in. If you’re traveling a long distance, build your plan around those weekend hours and be ready for the unit to manage the flow of visits within that timeframe.

TDCJ doesn’t treat “a week” as Saturday-to-Saturday for visitation. Instead, visiting cycles begin on Monday and end on the following Sunday. That matters because your visit count resets on Monday, not after you’ve visited on the weekend. So if you visit on a Sunday, you’re at the end of that cycle; the very next day (Monday) starts a new cycle.

Keep in mind: Normally, eligible inmates are allowed one visit per visiting cycle. If you visit on Saturday, plan as if you won’t be able to come back again on Sunday in that same Monday–Sunday cycle.

A regular visiting period is two hours long. The clock doesn’t start when you pull into the parking lot or when you check in - it begins when the inmate and the visitor(s) are present. Practically, that means delays can eat into your time: if you arrive late or there’s a wait before everyone is brought in and seated, your visit time starts once you’re actually together, not earlier in the process.

When you use the TDCJ online scheduler, you’ll see four visit types listed, including Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet. Not every option will be available in every situation - availability can depend on the visitor/inmate relationship, how the visitation area is set up, and the inmate’s visitation privileges - so don’t be surprised if the system only offers certain types for your loved one.

Cancellations and Lockdowns

  • Verify the visiting window for the day before you leave, since weekend visiting runs between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and unit operations can affect timing.
  • If you hear there’s a disruption, confirm whether visits are still being held before you commit to the drive.
  • Keep your schedule flexible - delays can shorten your actual time together because the two-hour visit period starts only when both the inmate and visitor(s) are present.
