Before Your First Visit: What to Bring and What Not to Bring to Cobb County Detention
Your first visit to Cobb County Detention will go much smoother if you handle registration ahead of time, bring the right ID, and leave prohibited items in the car. Here's a quick checklist to review before you head to the Visitation Center.
You'll need to complete visitor registration before scheduling a visit. Head to the Visitation Center during staff hours (7:00 A.M.–10:00 P.M.) with a valid, government-issued photo ID to get registered. Once registered, bring that same type of ID every time. Staff check it at each visit, and photocopies won't cut it - you need the original, physical ID.
Heads-up for first-timers: If you’re 18 or older, you’ll be photographed as part of the registration process.
Dress conservatively. The Visitation Center prohibits halter tops, tank tops, see-through clothing, bare midriffs, and spaghetti straps. When in doubt, go with something more covered-up. Getting turned away over an outfit is frustrating - and completely avoidable.
- ✓ Shorts/skirts are okay only if they’re no more than 2 inches above the knee
- ✓ Wear shoes - shoes must be worn at all times
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Food
- ✓ Drinks
- ✓ Cellular phones
- ✓ Other prohibited items (leave extras at home or locked in your car)
- ✓ Tobacco products (the Adult Detention Center is tobacco-free)
Health rule: You must wear a face mask while inside the building. Don’t enter if you have a fever/temperature, COVID-19 symptoms, recent close contact with a suspected or confirmed case, or a recent positive test.
- Wait in your vehicle - Visitors are asked to stay in their car until 5 minutes before the scheduled visit.
- Use the correct doors - Enter through the front doors of the Visitation Center and exit through the side door.
