Topic Overviews

Visitation

Coffield Unit holds regular visiting hours on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Each visit lasts two hours, starting when both you and the inmate are present. These are contact visits with limited physical contact, and most visits (except attorney-client) may be electronically monitored. To schedule, you'll need to create your own Online Visitation Scheduler account, verify it using the 7-digit code emailed during registration, and complete the background questionnaire before booking a time. Video visits work differently: kiosk visits are scheduled through the vendor website and limited to one 60-minute session per month for eligible inmates, while tablet video visits are scheduled through the TDCJ visitation portal. Item rules inside the secured perimeter are strictly enforced. If someone is removed from a Visitors List, you can appeal within 14 days.

Communication

Coffield Unit uses Securus for remote video visits. Each session lasts 60 minutes, costs $10, and inmates are limited to one remote video visit per month. For phone service, you'll need to register with the vendor using the inmate's TDCJ ID. TDCJ provides registration sites and phone numbers during stated registration hours. Calls are capped at 30 minutes, though inmates get unlimited minutes per month. All calls except attorney calls may be monitored or recorded. If you run into issues with phone, tablet, or video vendors, contact TDCJ ITS using the online contact form or by email at offenderphones@tdcj.texas.gov. The Inmate Technology office handles vendor and service questions Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding state holidays (effective Feb 2, 2026).

Sending Money

Sending money to someone at Coffield Unit is restricted to approved senders. As of September 1, 2020, only people on the inmate's approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List can make deposits. The Inmate Trust Fund does not accept cash or personal checks. Anything sent that way gets returned. Keep in mind that large single deposits may be held for 14 days before the inmate can access the funds. eCommDirect online deposits carry fees of $2.50 plus 2.25%. If you combine a purchase with a deposit, the fee jumps to $3.75 plus 2.25%. Newly received inmates cannot receive eCommDirect purchases until the next calendar quarter, so timing matters.
