How to Schedule Your First Visit at Coffield Unit (step‑by‑step)

Quick Checklist

  • A current, official government-issued photo ID (required for visitors age 18 and older)
  • At least one ID that shows your current physical address (there are address-protection exceptions for certified family violence victims)
  • A valid email address (you’ll be sent a 7-digit validation code and a link to finish registration)
  • Time to create your own TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account (staff can’t create it for you)
How to Schedule Your First Visit at Coffield Unit (step‑by‑step)
  1. Start account creation with your email - Use a valid email address you can access right away.
  2. Open the registration email - After you submit your email, you’ll receive a message with a link and a 7-digit validation code.
  3. Return to the scheduler and finish registration - Use the link, then re-enter your email and the 7-digit code.
  4. Create your password and submit - Once your password meets the requirements and you submit it, you’ll be taken to the Background Questionnaire.
  5. Complete the Background Questionnaire - Answer every question to move forward and finish creating your account.
  6. Register under your own name and details - You’re responsible for creating your own scheduler account; TDCJ staff can’t set it up for you.

Heads up: The scheduler won’t let you finish creating your account unless every question in the Background Questionnaire is answered.

Enter your phone number in this exact format: XXX XXX XXXX. Spaces between the groups, no dashes. The system can reject your entry if it's typed differently.

Reminder: If you get stuck during setup, go back and check the Background Questionnaire - one unanswered item can keep you from completing your account.

  1. Search for the inmate by TDCJ/SID number - Enter the number in the scheduler’s inmate search.
  2. Choose your relationship - Pick the correct option from the relationship dropdown.
  3. Submit the request - Click Request Approval, then confirm when prompted.
  4. Wait for verification by the unit - After you submit, the relationship request is sent to the inmate’s unit of assignment (Coffield Unit), where staff verify the visitor/inmate relationship before you can schedule visits.

No Schedule Visit button? The system isn't ready to let you book yet. Sometimes the button is blank or replaced with a message telling you to call the unit - this usually means your relationship with the inmate still needs verification. If your relationship is already confirmed but the inmate's visitation privileges have been removed, you'll see

Before you travel, confirm two things: your loved one is still assigned to Coffield Unit, and your visit is still on the schedule. Regular visiting hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Each visit lasts two hours, starting when you and the inmate are both present. If the scheduler tells you to call the unit to book, do that - don't make the trip without a confirmed slot.
