Sending Money

How to Send Money to Facility

Sending money is straightforward once you use the right channel. The biggest mistake? Mailing cash or checks directly to the facility. Those payments get rejected.

How to Send Money to Facility

Don't mail money directly to VADOC facilities or headquarters. No cash, no checks, no items with monetary value. Send it that way and it will be rejected, which means delays and frustration when your loved one actually needs the funds.

The approved way to deposit money by mail through VADOC is a money order sent via JPay. You'll need to include a deposit slip and mail it to the JPay P.O. Box listed in the steps section below. One thing to keep in mind: if the inmate owes fines, costs, or restitution, a percentage of your deposit may be applied to those debts rather than being fully available to spend.

How to Send Money to Facility

Steps to Follow

  • Get a money order
  • Include the required deposit slip with the money order
  • Mail it to: JPay, P.O. Box 278170, Miramar, FL 33027

Warning: Do not mail cash, checks, or other valuables to the facility or VADOC headquarters. Those items will be rejected.

Your loved one may not get the full amount you deposit. If the inmate has outstanding fines, costs, or restitution, a percentage of each deposit can be taken to pay down those debts.

Before sending anything, double-check the current JPay mailing address and make sure you have the correct deposit slip. A wrong address or a missing slip is an easy way to create unnecessary delays.

If you're trying to cover essentials like hygiene items, phone time, or snacks, find out whether the inmate has fines, costs, or restitution owed and how deposits are applied. A percentage may go toward those debts, so knowing that upfront helps you plan the right amount.

Policies change. What worked last year may not work today. Confirm that the facility is still rejecting mailed cash and checks before you send anything that could be turned away.
