Planning a weekend visit at the Coleman Unit? Two things matter most: the visiting window and how that two-hour clock actually works. Here's what you need to know.

Coleman Unit Weekend Visiting Hours and How Long Visits Last

Weekend visitation at the Coleman Unit happens on Saturdays and Sundays. If you're coordinating travel with family, plan around those two days.

The visiting window runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on both days. But your actual face time follows the visit length rules below - so build in extra time for check-in and getting seated.

A regular visit lasts two hours. Plan your arrival and any travel breaks around that two-hour block, not the full-day window.

The two-hour clock doesn't start when you walk in the building. It begins when both you and your loved one are present in the visiting area. Delays at check-in or waiting for the inmate to be brought out can push back your start time.

Suspensions Reasons

  • Rule violations by an inmate or a visitor
  • Security concerns
  • Unit lockdowns
  • Serious incidents, including escapes
  • Disturbances
  • Health or safety emergencies

Traveling a long distance? You might qualify for extra time. Extended visits may be permitted - at the warden's discretion - for visitors who travel more than 250 miles one way, as long as time and space allow.

Approved extended visits can last up to four hours. That's a big difference if you're driving in from far away - but don't count on it when building your itinerary.

Tip: Extended visits are discretionary and depend on time and space. Plan your trip assuming a standard two-hour visit, and request approval before you travel if you think you qualify.

Before you hit the road, call the unit to confirm the schedule. Visits can be canceled due to lockdowns or emergencies - a quick call saves you from a wasted trip.

  1. Ask what caused the cancellation - Staff can tell you whether it’s related to a rule issue, security concern, lockdown, disturbance, escape-related incident, or a health/safety emergency.
  2. Get the next realistic option - Ask when visitation is expected to resume and what the next available visiting day looks like.
  3. Confirm again before you return - Check for any official announcements and call the unit again before making another trip.
